How often do you ask someone how they're doing, and they say, "Oh, you know, I’m fine!”, even though they’ve had tight shoulders or a dull ache in their lower back all week, or that end-of-day tension headache? My massage lecturer (from many moons ago) used a phrase for this: being "vertically ill." It means you're upright, out of bed, and getting through your day, but you're certainly not feeling 100%. Over time, carrying this constant discomfort starts to feel like our base
